Strip Down

Hebrews
12:1
(NLT) – Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of
witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us
down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up.  And let us run with endurance the race God
has set before us.

I hate to run.  When I do, I am constantly negotiating with
myself:  “Just run to the corner – then
you can walk.”  “Run for 1 more minute – then
walk for 5.”  It’s both sad and funny.

I cannot fathom running fully geared
up as soldiers must.  The bulk!  The weight!
The stress on my joints!  I hurt
just thinking about it!  I can imagine
happily stripping stuff off and dropping it along the path as our scripture
suggests.  I might even playfully skip with
renewed freedom.  Skipping is more fun
than running, after all.

Are you carrying unneeded weight in the race God has set
before you?

Are you holding a grudge,
resentment, or unforgiveness?  Do you
feel shame or guilt over your past?  Have
you been trying to kick a bad habit?  Do
you lie awake at night stewing over mistakes?
Does your conscience bother you?

Take it to God and then let it
go!  Let His grace lighten your heart.  God doesn’t want you to trudge along in this
life.  He needs you to strip away
anything that hinders you from accomplishing His calling for your life.

What’s slowing you down?

It's amazing how we think. When I read your selected scripture, the first thing that came to my mind were my 5K's and how running is not easy so the run/walk is taken into consideration. However, as I continued to read your message, it is so true about life and how we must consider what we take on as a burden knowing we are NOT to bear it. Thank you for the wonderful message on the Monday!

I totally agree with you! I actually use 3 minutes run, then 5 minutes walk. Great motivation!

I still hat it and don't do it often, but it know the run/ walk method is great for weight loss. I wonder if this carries over spiritually to growing closer to God? A burst of excitement and growth followed by a calmer rest.
