Psalm
119:93 (NLT) – I will never forget your commandments, for by them you give
me life.

I like the way this sentence is
present and future tense. I will not forget. Your commands give life. They’re not irrelevant,
ancient rules, but continue to guide us toward the best personal and community life
possible.

We’re not just talking about the Big
Ten. Of course avoiding murder and
adultery builds better community. There
are so many more: forgive one another,
use words to build up rather than tear down, work toward peace, deal fairly
with each other, love your enemy until he becomes your neighbor, lend
generously, and take care of the underprivileged. Don’t all of these lead to better personal
and community life?

If we know so many commands that truly
give life, why do we forget so many that probably
give life too? Make God the center of
your life (not money, celebrities, or power).
Rest and give thanks to God one day each week. Use God’s name for praise and worship. Show respect to your elders. These examples are all in the Big Ten but
there are many others.

Is it possible we’re missing out on
a better life by disregarding so many of God’s commands?

Many of the commands in the Bible are found in everyday life and they do help to build a stronger society. It's just a shame that not everyone follows them.
Ah, but wouldn't it be 'heaven' if everyone did? My goal is to encourage people to read God's Word more regularly by gently giving them small bits to think about. Hopefully the seeds will grow and they WILL follow more closely. Thanks for reading and commenting. I've enjoyed UBC and getting to know and learn from other bloggers.
I'm not a spiritual person to start with, but many of the teaching can (and should) be considered simply as a moral way to live your life.
Thanks for reading and commenting through UBC, Scott, especially because you probably don't connect with my content. I do believe the teachings of scripture are a moral way to live and would encourage folks to consider living this way. What would our world look like if more followed? Heaven?
Hi Cathy, there are some values like respect, tolerance and evolve in life that can never be forsaken. Beautiful lines. Btw, thanks for the honest feedback for my novella:)
