Topics to Dig Into
[Jesus speaking] “Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a
fishing net that was thrown into the water and caught fish of every kind. When
the net was full, they dragged it up onto the shore, sat down, and sorted the
good fish into crates, but threw the bad ones away. That is the way it will be
at the end of the world. The angels will come and separate the wicked people
from the righteous, throwing the wicked into the fiery furnace, where there
will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Do you understand all these things?”

I don’t want to write this post. I
don’t want to use this scripture. I’m angry God led me to it. But here goes:

I was scanning my red letter Bible (Jesus’
words are printed in red) for a positive message about the Kingdom of God/Heaven.
The theme I repeatedly encountered was of separating the good from the bad. Jesus

The weeds are sorted out and burned in the fire (Matt 13:40). The lazy servant is thrown into outer darkness where there is weeping
and gnashing of teeth (Matt 25:30).
The [goats] will go away into eternal punishment, but the [sheep] will
inherit the Kingdom (Matt 35:46). Those who fail to enter through the narrow
door will be thrown out (Luke 13:24-24). Unproductive branches that have been
severed from the Vine will be gathered
into a pile to be burned (John 15:6).

There are probably more, but I’m too
sad to look further. It’s disturbing. It’s depressing. It’s not the fairy tale
ending we’d like.
