Priceless

Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a merchant on the
lookout for choice pearls. When he discovered a pearl of great value, he sold
everything he owned and bought it!  –
Jesus
Matthew 13:45-46(NLT)

The merchant is an expert on pearls,
acquiring only the best. He has an excellent reputation for having an inventory
of very high quality. One day, he discovers a pearl that surpasses all others.
It is more valuable than everything he has put together. So he liquidates his
entire inventory, including his shop and home, to acquire this one-of-a-kind
pearl.

Jesus’ story describes the Kingdom
of Heaven – life on earth lived His way as well as life after death. It’s
better than anything you’ve ever encountered – more valuable than anything and
everything you own. In our culture of super, awesome, and ultimate, our
language doesn’t contain a superlative amazing enough to touch the Kingdom.

This is great news! The Kingdom of
Heaven is truly priceless!

The story is also challenging.

My response to God’s offer of
Kingdom life has not been like the merchant’s. Even though I’ve gotten a glimpse
of Kingdom life and experienced great joy following Jesus, I still hold earthly
relationships, time, and stuff more precious.

Would I move my family to be closer
to people who need help? (‘sell’ community)

Would I spend one day every week or
month serving others? (‘sell’ time)

Would I make space in my home for
someone in need? (‘sell’ privacy)

Would I live with less so I could
donate more? (‘sell’ stuff)

Would I spend 15 minutes every day in prayer and scripture? (‘sell’ time)

How much would you ‘sell’ to
encounter this wonderful Kingdom?

Great questions. May I be obedient to whatever God calls me to do

Yes, great specific questions. I admit that I rarely live fully embracing this truth, that He is more valuable to me than anything (my comfort, my reputation, my time and energy, my "being right", etc.) Please God, let me really see your superior value in my daily life.
