A Disciple on Palm Sunday

Topics to Dig Into
Rejoice, O people of Zion! Shout in triumph, O people of Jerusalem!
Look, your king is coming to you. He is righteous and victorious, yet he is
humble, riding on a donkey – riding on a donkey’s colt. Zechariah 9:9 (NLT)

Palm Sunday certainly sounds like a
party, doesn’t it? The Message
translates shout and cheer, raise the
roof!

Can you imagine the disciples’ adrenaline
rush as Jesus entered Jerusalem?

This was a king’s entrance – a hero’s welcome. A king rode a warhorse into war, but a king coming
in peace rode a donkey. Their teacher was finally
taking his rightful place. The crowds
were shouting Hosanna – “Save us!”

Can you imagine the disciples’
excitement as it all came together? They
were already discussing their positions in his court.

It didn’t seem to matter that He sat
atop their dusty cloaks instead of royal robes.
The crowds were calling Him the Messiah and lining the road with branches
and clothing as was customary before royalty.
And Jesus wasn’t shushing them about His true identity as He had many
times. At last He was openly declaring Himself
the Messiah King and accepting their worship!

Can you imagine?
Were they confused when Jesus rode
straight to the Temple instead of the government center?

How quickly did the crowd realize
Jesus hadn’t come to conquer their oppressors, but to reign in their hearts?

Do we worship the King Jesus is? Or the one we want Him to be?
Did you notice today’s scripture
reference? It sounds just like the Palm
Sunday parade, right? But Zechariah was
an Old Testament prophet between 520-480 BC.
Jesus’ big entry fulfilled this prophesy.

Great questions to ponder. Especially Do we worship the King Jesus is or the one we want Him to be?
