We should help others do what is right and build them up in the Lord.

What a choice nugget of wisdom! If only this were our daily goal.

But it’s not. We remain quiet instead of alerting a friend to concerning behavior, sometimes even whispering with others about it. We mind our own business when something unkind is spoken rather than confront and defend. We avoid conversations involving faith so as not to offend. We watch as friends drift away from God rather than correct them.

How can we help others do what is right without the courage to speak up with loving kindness?

Let’s be a community who builds each other up in the Lord. Perhaps we could begin by proactively inviting correction – giving our close friends permission to speak truth.
