We should help others do what is right and build them up in the Lord.
Romans 15:2 (NLT)
What a choice nugget of wisdom! If only this were our daily goal.
But it’s not. We remain quiet instead of alerting a friend to concerning behavior, sometimes even whispering with others about it. We mind our own business when something unkind is spoken rather than confront and defend. We avoid conversations involving faith so as not to offend. We watch as friends drift away from God rather than correct them.
How can we help others do what is right without the courage to speak up with loving kindness?
Let’s be a community who builds each other up in the Lord. Perhaps we could begin by proactively inviting correction – giving our close friends permission to speak truth.
Along these lines, I encourage you to join the conversation on the blog or through email. Express your opinion. Go deeper. Disagree. Challenge my interpretation. Call me out. I’m giving you permission.
Let’s be a community who builds each other up in the Lord.
Correction, when done with love, is a beautiful gift.
