Romans 6:12-13 (NLT)
You may know that I’m sometimes slow to catch on. Because of this character trait, God often repeats the same message through different voices until I hear him. This happened again recently.
During Lent, I set my alarm back 30 minutes to pray and write. I felt focused and full of the Spirit. When Lent ended my Facebook fast also ended. I slowly frittered
away that prayer time. Hello, my name is Cathy and I’m a FB junkie.
away that prayer time. Hello, my name is Cathy and I’m a FB junkie.
So God alerted me to the problem.
Alert #1: I recently asked a friend to pray for me because my passion for God has
been flat – no crisis of faith, just a lack of my normal enthusiasm. She gently
asked “How is your devotion time?” Her words were right to God’s point, but I didn’t hear him.

Alert #2: My writers’ critique group recently shared ideas for productive writing habits
that included getting up early and
praying before writing. That reminded me why my alarm rings at dawn, but I
still surfed Facebook.

Alert #3: On Pentacost my pastor encouraged us to position ourselves for use by the Holy Spirit, using authors who have a discipline of setting time aside to write every day as the perfect example. Ok God, I hear you. I’ll see you in the morning.
I’ve learned that a message repeated from multiple sources that aligns with Biblical teaching is usually from God. Today I’m obeying and God is faithfully pouring His Spirit into me.
What message is on repeat in your life? Could it be from God? (tweet it)

Ha! After writing this I received a post from Ken Weliever, ThePreachersWord.com, that spoke of using Facebook as a procrastination device…. Loud and strong, God. Loud and strong.
Cathy, all my inner voice messages are from God, but sometimes I wait to listen, and that's a no-no. I keep telling myself, "Do it now, do not wait!!" His messages are sooooo important to my life, and to many in my life, and even people I do not know, but love.
Ruth, like you I don't always do what I 'hear' as quickly as God would like. He is so involved in my life with whispers and shows me things all the time. While I was packing my suitcase this morning, I was distracted by the cat's chewing on my earbuds. Thank you God. The thing I forgot to pack last time I traveled was my earbuds!
Cathy- I am right there with you. My alarm goes off and I manage to find all kinds of ways not to be productive in my writing. It is entirely possible the Lord is taking me back to full-time work in order to instill some discipline in my life. Be blessed in your commitment to give Him your time!
