Israel – One Body

The Inaugural Proverbs 31 Tour Group at the Sea of Galilee

The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ. If the foot should say, “because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason cease to be part of the body. But in fact God has arranged the parts in the body, every one of them, just as He wanted them to be.
1 Corinthians 12:12,15,18

Insecurity reared its head immediately.

Of the125 members on my Holy Land tour, I fell near the bottom. These were deeply faithful, women (and a handful of men) doing great things: employees of Proverbs 31 or a mega-church, published authors and bloggers, pastors or seminarians, and some other ordinary folk like me. Only 5 of us came from New England which made them much more comfortable talking about Jesus than me.  Southern accents abounded.

I felt less than.

But I caught myself and prayed. I reminded myself that I am worthy in God’s eyes. I reminded myself not compare myself to others. My part in God’s plan is different from anyone else’s.

The ‘Red’ Bus – My Israeli Family

I remembered that God brought me to Israel on this specific trip by placing an overwhelming desire in my heart the moment it was announced. I did no research except to check the dates with my husband. This was His idea. I must trust Him.

Have you ever felt unqualified? Out of place? Less accomplished?

Recall the things God has done for you and remind yourself that He is trustworthy. The ancient Israelites built altars of stones throughout their journey as a way to remember the times God acted on their behalf.

Believe that God has a specific job for you that differs from His call on others. We are one body learning from and supporting one another as each of us fulfills their role.

My strategy?

I became a student, probing all these wonderful experts for wisdom and advice. As it turned out, I was right in the mix. God had blessed me with this amazing community of believers with whom to walk the Holy Land. We learned so much from each other as well as the guides.

Cathy, you are not at all "less than." You have a volunteer ministry that impacts hundreds! I'm sure many of the "professionals" were challenged by your own commitment to "feed his sheep." Can't wait to hear all about it!

Thanks Karen, but that's where my emotions 'go' and have always gone since high school. I battle the feeling of not measuring up in many areas of life, but definitely have a better handle on it through self-awareness and knowing God's love for me.

Great insight. I have felt less than also. It is a tool of the evil one. Thank you for sharing. I look forward to more.

Yes, Cherrilynn. It's absolutely the evil one, but it's not completely bad since it helps to keep me humble.
