Israel – The Mount of Olives

Overlooking Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives

On that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, east of Jerusalem, and the Mount of Olives will be split in two from east to west, forming a great valley, with half of the mountain moving north and half moving south. On that day living water will flow out from Jerusalem, half to the eastern sea and half to the western sea.
Zechariah 14:4,8

This water flows toward the eastern region and goes down into the Arabah, where it enters the [Dead] Sea, the water there becomes fresh. Swarms of living creatures will live wherever the river flows. There will be large numbers of fish, because this water flows there and makes the salt water fresh; so where the river flows everything will live.
Ezekiel 47:8-9

Phew! Time to catch my breath!

I am learning so much! I’m absorbing like a sponge and taking notes like a fiend. I should have taken a history class in preparation for this trip. The Crusades, the Ottoman Empire, the British Mandate…..

I cannot describe the significance of our first stop – the Mount of Olives. There’s something remarkable about standing in a place that Jesus frequented, looking out over the Kidron Valley to the Temple Mount, and singing “How Great is Our God” with 125 fellow Christians.

Lysa TerKeurst teaching on the Mount of Olives

Lysa TerKeurst’s teaching here noted that Zechariah said Jesus will return to the Mount of Olives in His second coming. His feet will touch this very place again. Zechariah also prophesied that the mount will split open and two rivers will run out – one will flow east to the Dead Sea and the other to the Mediterranean. The river will be so strong that it washes away the mount to the south, the Mount of Corruption, and make the Dead Sea come to life. Sounds familiar huh? Wash away sin and bring death to life?

Do you want to know the amazing thing?

This is WILD!

Graves covering the Mount of Olives

There is a tectonic plate beneath the Mount of Olives. God has it all set up and ready for the prophesy to be fulfilled.

How Great is our God!

So fascinating. Please continue to share you notes over the next several months for those of us who will probably never make it there in person.
