I
imagine the disciples’ grief and confusion on this Holy Saturday. They didn’t yet know the happy resurrection
part of the story as we do. They were
afraid they’d soon be arrested for being Jesus’ associates. It was the Sabbath, a day for rest and worship. No chores, no long walks, but most likely
some very tearful, stressful conversations.
I imagine the stunned disciples hiding together in the Upper Room where
only a day earlier they had shared the Passover meal with their Jesus. We don’t know if Peter, with his shame,
joined them. We know Judas had hanged
himself for his part. They were locked
away all day, fearful for their safety, praying to God, grieving the loss of
their friend and leader, asking how and why things had gone so wrong, and wondering
what to do without Him.

completely abandoned by God, know that He has something better coming. Be confident in that hope. Resurrection hope.
