Do you ever wonder if you’re on the right path?
Even while using a navigation device, I can make a wrong turn and get off course. Luckily, the device automatically recalculates and guides me back toward my intended destination.
Sometimes, out of habit or pleasure, I have a preferred route that deviates from the GPS’s best route. Remember the old Garmin’s kind voice repeating “Recalculating. When possible make a U-turn”? Thanks for the warning, but I like this way. I’m grateful the newer models recalculate silently!
Is it the same way with this path to life that Jesus speaks of?
Am I sometimes distracted, miss a turn, and find myself in the wrong neighborhood? Do I stubbornly persist in bad habits? Do I ignore the warnings and go with the mainstream?
Unfortunately, my internal GPS doesn’t automatically recalculate. I have to manually reset my destination toward the road that leads to life.
How? By knowing Jesus’ instructions and following the Holy Spirit’s guidance. By reading and understanding scripture (especially Jesus’ own words) we create an internal map in our hearts. When we find ourselves at a crossroad, the Holy Spirit brings those verses to mind. Still, we choose to follow or not.
What does life through the small gate look like?

Great questions. The way I know I am on the narrow path is when I see everyone else swimming in the opposite direction. The world is backward when it comes to God. As believers who follows, Jesus closely, we see the lies and deception that the world is blinded to. Just watch the political debates. Killing babies is ok. Homosexual marriage is the norm. To stay on the narrow path is to follow Jesus so closely that His light guides the way. If we do not the darkness with begin to take over.
I love the swimming analogy. Jesus followers often swim upstream. It takes a lot of energy to keep from being drawn in by the current.
