An Encouraging Churchy Word – Justified

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by His grace…a person is justified by faith apart from the works of the law.
Romans 3:23-24,28 (NIV)

Phew! Today’s scripture is jam packed with churchy words! Sin. Glory. Justified. Grace. We’ve been looking at the meaning of some of these lofty words (read about grace).

Justified is today’s churchy word and you’re going to love this one! Really!

In daily life we use it to give ourselves legitimacy – a valid reason for speaking or acting which looks a lot like back-peddling. Indeed justified is occasionally used to explain action in scripture, but more
often it’s used in a much more positive way.

Justified is closely associated with grace because it’s a gift from God based on faith. We can’t earn it.

Grace is pretty awesome, but in a way, justification is even better!

When we are justified by God, He not only forgives our sin, He treats us as though the sin never happened.

Pause and digest that.

The sin is removed as far as the east is from the west (Psalm 103:12). Gone. Forgotten. It never happened.

Through Jesus’ blood, poured out on the cross, we are made pure before God. Justified. It only takes faith – believing that Jesus is God’s Son who washes away our sins.

That’s so encouraging! We get a fresh start with no baggage! Thank you God!

How will you celebrate being justified before God?
