Sing Carols!

Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your
lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom He gives. Sing psalms
and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts.
Colossians 3:16 (NLT)

Can you imagine Christmas without
carols?

My church’s Carol Sing formally kicks
off my season and will be followed by hand bell, choral and brass concerts. I’ll
listen at home and on the treadmill, in doctors’ offices and while shopping. Artists
in my personal collection range from Bing Crosby to Pentatonix. I buy new
Christmas CDs every year!

Although there are probably some
grumps, most people don’t seem offended by Christmas music playing in public
places or on the radio. While most music is about Santa, snow and presents, once
in a while an old fashioned carol sneaks in. Imagine that! Christian music for
Christmas!

Let that occasional faith based carol
be an opportunity to intentionally refocus on God’s gift of Jesus. Pay
attention to the words and remember the true meaning of the season.

Another suggestion is to create a
playlist of faith based Christmas music. I’m not suggesting you eliminate secular songs all the time, but when you listen to this special playlist, involve your heart
and sing along in praise.

Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Sing songs and hymns and spiritual
songs to God with thankful hearts! Joy to the world, the Lord is coming…let us
adore Him…fall on your knees…Gloria In Excelsis Deo!

What is your favorite Christmas carol?

My favorite is Mary, Did You Know? by Mark Lowry which takes me right to the
stable where Mary held Jesus and kissed the face of God. Amazing!
