I attended a book signing last night for Jean (Sangster) Niven Lenk, a former member of my church who recently
published Fertilizer Happens. The title aptly describes the rich growth that can result from the manure in our lives.

Jean shared her early faith journey, describing a childhood in the church, teenage years trying to reconcile world events with a loving God, and then walking away from organized religion for 20 years.
But she returned. She walked through the doors of our church, got involved, enrolled in seminary and has been a pastor for 14 years.
One conversation changed the direction of her life.
A neighbor invited her to church.
Diane, the neighbor, doesn’t remember the conversation, doesn’t remember extending an invitation. She didn’t know the turmoil going in Jean’s life. For Diane, it was no big deal, but for Jean it was life changing.
Diane is blessed with the opportunity to see how she made a difference in someone’s life, but that doesn’t happen often. Most of the time, we never find out. We never get that “good job” pat on the back. But that doesn’t diminish the truth that we can make a difference in small ways.
