God is Indeed God

Deuteronomy
5:7 (NLT) Understand, therefore, that the Lord your God is indeed God.  He is the faithful God who keeps His covenant
for a thousand generations and lavishes His unfailing love on those who love
Him and obey His commands.

What are you thinking?
(This question reminds me of youthful relationships when conversation
was uncomfortable.)

You just read today’s scripture, so what are you
thinking?  Which word or phrase caused a
reaction?  If nothing comes to mind,
perhaps you need to read it again, more slowly and intentionally, to see what
God is saying to you.

Do you understand or do you wonder whether God is indeed
God?

Are there words or ideas you don’t understand or that you
disagree with?

Do words like faithful, lavish, unfailing, and love describe
the God you know?

How do the final two ‘conditions’ to love and obey Him
affect you?

Read this short verse again and give it more thought.

Is God speaking?
Let’s engage in conversation in the comment section!

Like a productive garden, a rich
relationship should be tended regularly.

Understand – to me that is a commandment. When we understand who God is, His attributes, we will know the rest "He is the faithful God who keeps His covenant for a thousand generations and lavishes His unfailing love on those who love Him and obey His commands." The only way to truly know Him is through applying His word. I think of 2 Peter 1:3 "His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence," Through the knowledge of Him we get have everything. Know God and you will know peace, love, joy, wisdom, patience, kindness gentleness and not worry. Thank you Cathy for this it brought joy to my heart.

I see what you mean, Cherrilynn, how 'understand' can be a commandment. But I don't think you can command someone to understand. They have to come to it through (like you suggest) knowledge and experience. Understanding because you're commanded to isn't deeply rooted. Understanding because you have experienced His presence and power resides in the heart and soul. I see this as a reminder to lean in to that which you know in your heart.
