Unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. Anyone who loves their life will lose it, while anyone who hates their life in this world will keep it for eternal life. -Jesus

John 12:24-25 (NIV)
I’m finishing an online Bible study by Lysa TerKeurst this week and want to share her final message. I am paraphrasing from the video and book, Becoming More Than a Good Bible Study Girl.
Consider a packet of seeds. Maybe you’ve already bought
some with spring around the corner.
some with spring around the corner.
If a seed could express it’s ‘thoughts’, it’s probably pretty comfortable in the packet. It’s among similar seeds, protected, and dry.
One day the farmer plants the seed. I can almost hear the seed resisting. It doesn’t want to be taken from its comfort zone and dropped in a strange, dark hole. Why would the mean farmer leave it alone in a messy, uncomfortable environment? The seed didn’t ask for this.
To make matters worse, the mean farmer waters the dirt and the seed starts to fall apart. It’s scared to lose its protective shell, then crack and split open. It yearns for the warmth of the light above the soil. It stretches a small shoot up toward the light. Once it breaks through the earth’s barrier, it begins to grow and flourish. Eventually the
seed becomes a beautifully flowering plant – the fullness of what it was meant to be.

Is the farmer mean?
Is our God mean?
Or does He have a sovereign plan for each of us that will prosper us beyond our limited understanding?
Will you be a seed that loses its life to become something greater for His glory?
